Hedgesville
Prepares For it's Biggest Visit
The
Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia is busy preparing
for the arrival of President Bush. The Commander in
Chief is scheduled to appear at Hedgesville High School
Tuesday August 17, 2004 in the evening. He`ll address
a crowd on the football field, but before his arrival,
there has been much work to be done.
Verizon
had many trucks working at and near the High School
throughout the weekend to install more telephone lines
for the media. The entertainment for the festivities
had practices. The law enforcement teams (local and
national) coordinated efforts and practiced and the
school parking lot was more than half filled with vehicles
after 9 pm.
The
field at Hedgesville High School will be jammed pack
with people. Not for a pre-season high school football
game, but to see the President of the United States
of America. Republicans and interested parties from
all over will gather here tomorrow to rally for Bush.
Police
say the secret service was in town last week making
safety preparations. Homeland Security has been seen
at various locations throughout the area. 5,000 to 7,000
people are expected to attend the event, which gates
are scheduled to open at 3:00 pm. Local Republican leaders
have been prepping for Bush`s visit but will not confirm
his arrival. Local police have been securing the area
for safety. Bush`s Air Force One jet is scheduled to
arrive just before 6:00 at Eastern West Virginia Regional
Airport and the President is scheduled to speak at 6:15.
The
Martinsburg Barracks of the West Virginia State Troopers
declined to state which roads would be closed when called
for that information today, for the extra security and
safety of the event. The quote given was "If you're
not going to the event you might want to stay at home.
If not, then police will be out directing drivers around
or wing it."
Many
residents are wondering how the interruption in travel
will effect the workforce who would naturally be passing
the High School around the event time. Because this
is a rural environment, very few roads are near each
other to use as detours.
More
updates and event information will be posted as soon
as it obtained so do return soon.
